This does tend to be true, but I find that as long as I keep them
pretty close together, it works well. Problems I have experienced
are:

1) They tend to be sensitive to solar storms (I subscribe to the
   space weather report list, if you're wondering how I know this);

2) At work, two of us use them, and I found that the other person's
   transmissions nearly always stepped on and interfered with my
   keyboard and mouse. Sometimes things he typed would show up on my
   screen. The only thing that cured it was moving him nearly 10 meters
   away to another desk.

I haven't experienced this at home, but there does tend to be
general sensitivity to RF interference.

Overall, in spite of that, I like them enough that I am willing
to put up with those occassional inconveniences, although if
they were sold separately, I would use a wired keyboard and just
a wireless mouse (I love that feature a lot more on the mouse
than on the keyboard, where it's merely nice). A wireless mouse
may prove to be pretty durable, too, since there is no cord
to be pulled out by kids playing with it.
