In grappling with the tape drive issue, I tried to install ftape on another linux machine to make tests. However, something seems to be wrong with the compiler. I found that not only couldn't I compile ftape, I couldn't make a new kernel either. I tried make mrproper, tried reinstalling the kernel-headers and kernel-source (from rpm) and tried working from various .config files that I had saved from previous kernel building experiments. Something like the below error ocurred each time. Perhaps something has happened to my compiler? gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o tty_ioctl.o tty_ioctl.c gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11 make[3]: *** [tty_ioctl.o] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/drivers/char' make[2]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/drivers/char' make[1]: *** [_subdir_char] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.10/drivers' make: *** [_dir_drivers] Error 2 [root@example.com linux]# {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:0: Warning: end of file not at end of a line; newline inserted {standard input}:557: Error: Unknown pseudo-op: `.l1113' ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Meeting (w/ YLUG): June 16 (Fri) 19:00 Mizonoguchi Marui Family 12F Next Technical Meeting: July 8 (Sat) 13:30 Topic: TBA ----------------------------------------------------------------------- more info: http://www.tlug.gr.jp Sponsor: Global Online Japan
