TLuggers, I attached an IOMEGA parallel zip drive to the parallel port and insmod-ed ppa . I wasn't able to mount the thing (not going to use it, so am not worried about it), but could tell from the lines in /var/log/messages that it was being recognized. Hence, I think the problems I am having with the Trakker is a result of something other than parport and parport_pc. cat /proc/parport/0/irq gives "7". cat /proc/parport/0/hardware gives : base: 0x378 irq: 7 dma: none modes: SPP (want to change to EPP, but forgot which function key brings up the bios settings on this Aptiva 486DX ...) /dev/ftape is linked to rft0 is this correct? I used ftape's default lines for Trakker in MCONFIG. Is this correct? TRAKKER_DEV=0 FDC_OPT += -DCONFIG_FT_FDC_PARPORT_$(TRAKKER_DEV)=-1 \ -DCONFIG_FT_PAR_$(TRAKKER_DEV)=1 \ -DCONFIG_FT_TRAKKER_$(TRAKKER_DEV)=1 After testing the zip drive, switching back to the tape drive (unplugging and plugging in the latter), I got different error messages in /var/log/messages . I thought it might work, but no such luck. Any advice appreciated.
