Either you don't have enough irqs left, or there is another driver on irq 9 that doesn't like to share. You should try to configure the /etc/pcmcia/config.opts so that you exclude irq 9 and see what happens. If you don't have enough irqs left, you can start the pcmcia controller in polling mode instead of using an irq of its own. This should be mentioned in the PCMCIA-HOWTO document. I am not sitting at my linux notebook right now, or would send you my config files. If the above doesn`t work, it could be a timing problem. You should read PCMCIA-HOWTO to work those out.
