The problem might be that the kinput2 window tries to stay on top but your window manager doesn't let it to be placed there. This is just one idea. So give us some more details about your system, gtk, kinput2, Xfree versions, etc. > I have similar problems with other programs that use the gimp toolkit as > well (for example, gjiten, a gtk-based japanese-english dictionary that > uses edict dictionaries. It looks really promising, but there's not much > point in using a dictionary if I can't enter the japanese that I want to > look up...), Then why don't you mail it to me as a bugreport!? :-P Probably because it's not a bug in gjiten. ;-) > and am wondering if other people have had this problem or if > anyone's found a way to get gtk applications and japanese text input to > co-exist peacefully. Well, the can coexist peacefully. Many people use kinput2 with gtk just like me. Otherwise I would have written gjiten differently. And not just kinput2 but other input methods which support the X Input Method protocol can pass japanese text to gtk. Though some gtk widgets still have problems with displaying japanese characters. I cannot input japanese text to the gimp drawing area either. When I try doing this it hangs gimp for quite a while eating up all the resources then a minute later it recovers. Also the font preview cannot show japanese thext in the preview window either. > If anyone has mastered the dark art of getting @#&$!* kinput2 to work with > anything besides a kterm, I'd appreciate some suggestions. I have this line in my .Xdefaults file: *inputMethod: kinput2 You could also read the kinput2 docs and Xfree86-doc/XIM as well for more details. They might not answer your question though.
