IMevenHerO, a good reason for single users to use Linux is that it seems to be the most stable OS available for single users. I no longer wish to build my house on the swamp that is Windows, and my experience with the Mac OS has left me convinced that it's almost as flaky, especially when running MS applications. Linux has never crashed on me, not once. Windows 98J does so almost daily, even though I try to practice good system hygiene using Norton's tools. I also like having a scripting language (I know, the Mac has Applescript) and access to features like cron. FWIW.
