Yes, indeed. I use cdparanoia to rip and bladeenc to record; I think
those two are the best free solution around. cdparanoia may be a little
slower than the others, but it's very accurate; if it can't read a block,
it'll keep trying rather than give up. There's a package called ripenc
which, as you might guess, rips and then encodes; I use this because it does
CDDB lookups on the CD and names the tracks appropriately.
