tlug: emacs mailer recommendation?

After listening to various bits of advice and mucking about on my system
trying to get japanese e-mail to work correctly with kinput2 and some
flavor of vi or vim, I've given up and moved to Xemacs-Mule, which seems
to handle japanese with nary a hitch. Unless you count learning emacs.
(And I thought learning to speak japanese would be complex...)

What I'm looking for is a recommendation of a particularly user-friendly
mailer for Xemacs that can also handle japanese text intelligently.
I've tried both VM and Mew, and there are things that I like and dislike
about each. Unfortunately, the fact that I'm still on the steep end of
the Emacs learning curve means that I'm having a hard time finding out
which one is more usable (I can't even use the editor, let alone the
mailer).

I'll learn. But in the meantime, could someone point me in the direction
of a couple of worthwhile mailers, preferrably ones with good
documentation?

much thanks

john
