Scott's an optimist.

Partly.  The other part is that when Scott does an upgrade, he pretty 
much rebuilds the whole distribution against it.  That will fix
problems like the modutils/ksyms vs. 2.0.3x "can't find modules" buglet.

This means that his working environment tends to be more consistent
and up-to-date than most people.

And of course release kernels have some work done to maximize backward 
compatibility---"feature freeze" does that somewhat automatically as
all the tools catch up, and also experience builds up in what the
typical problems are, sometimes getting kernel fixes.
