No.  I'm not sure exactly what happens, but it's definitely not that.
As I understand it, ldd munges the environment of ld.so so that ld.so
sees an argc of 0, which recent (ie, in the lifetime of Scott Stone :-) 
ld.so special-case to report on libs used.

I don't know just how far ld.so goes in creating this report; maybe it 
loads the libraries, maybe it just reads enough of them to learn their 
dependencies.  But the conflicts that hose a library and result in
"can't load" messages do not necessarily occur under ldd, so the
process must be different.
