Andy has already covered this pretty well, but I'll throw in my two
cents worth too.   Samba works very well and a 486-100 should be more
than enough to meet your needs as a print server, and it will not only
be more reliable than Windows 9x, but it will also be faster than
Windows 9x on that machine (or any machine, I would suspect).

The man page for smb.conf should contain all the information you
need to set this up.  There are also many good examples included in the
stock smb.conf file.  As Andy mentioned, there is a Samba book (and it's
pretty good), but I agree that you shouldn't need it for this.
Providing print services with Samba is pretty straight-forward.
