I sort of agree and disagree with this philosophy - Linux is perceived as
being a low-budget implementation that can run on old stuff, but that's
not really what it is - Linux can also be a powerhouse OS for high-end
machines as well, as well as a mission-critical enterprise server OS.
Linux is what you make of it - the more you put in in terms of hardware
and software, the more you're likely to get out of it.  YMMV, of course.
