So let me get this straight: you want a database for Linux, but it should be
slow, crash a lot, not scale well, and be an all-around risky place to put

Seriously, though, there are a lot of databases available for Linux.  Tons,
really. There is a long list of them with links at this URL, found on the TLUG
links page:

If you can't find what you want there, you may need to wait for Filemaker Pro
to be ported to Linux :-)
