Jonathan recommended it to me, too.  The Aiwa was 10,000 yen cheaper at
the time.  Albeit the  Aiwa does have problems - I needed to patch my ppp
kernel module to work around broken firmware, and sometimes the thing just
locks up and I have to powercycle it (good thing it's an external TA :) ).

BUT, it does seem to understand basic AT commands :)
