I once used it for converting senmon go (medical stuff) to furigana so i
could sort the list. After that a native Japanese checked the list.
Though the Furigana was not exactly correct it was accurate enough for
sorting. (Those words were containing more than 4 kanjis each). It will
do a fairly good job for more common words I think. 
Kakasi comes with a dictionary but I don't know if you can add words or
if you can create a custom dic. :(
