But that would simplify the human-machine interface (note that the
human-machine interface is not the same as the programming interface).  A
four-byte language scheme would let people display as many
different languages simultaneously as they wished.  All they would need is
the appropriate fonts.   That would be a simplification over today's mess, I
think.
