I occasionally use my Twiddler (a one-hand chord keyboard,
http://www.handykey.com) with Linux.  There are device drivers available in
source form that demonstrate taking the serial output from the Twiddler and
pumping it into Linux.  The a2x program (originally used to pipe
DragonDictate into X device events) is used to connect into X.
