Don't know what to tell you on the partition problem. I had a Quantum
1800s which ran very hot as well. It died after a year or so. I
recently was going to get some Quantum 9G 10000rpm drives, until I
opened the box and read the warning about the cooling
requirements. The gist of it was that it needs a fan to keep it cool
enough.
