you have this problem with TL i386 on a normal machine?  If you shutdown
the machine with 'shutdown -r now', 'shutdown -h now', or simply
ctrl-alt-del, the drives will unmount cleanly, as long as you don't
powercycle it before it says, "Unmounting filesystems..."
