tlug: Question

Okay, I've been using FreeBSD for a few weeks to see what it was like.
There were several things I liked about it. One was the "ports
collection". I like the function in the ports collection were when I
compile one of the programs if it is not on my system, FreeBSD
automatically goes out to the Internet gets the file and any other
dependencies, compiles and installs. Is there a function within Linux
that allows this?

Thanks in advance.

Blaine

P.S. The movers are coming the day after tomorrow, so if I don't get
the chance to say goodbye, Goodbye. You've all been great and being
part of TLUG brought me from the "newbie" realm to where I'm at today
(post-newbie) :-) Thanks to everyone, and keep in touch. You can
reach me temporarily at stoneab@example.com, I'll let everyone know when I
get back online.
