The HP burners work well with Linux, as do the Yamahas.  I have a 4x
Yamaha writer right now for making our Linux oneoffs, and that works
really well.  Just be careful writing CDs from a laptop, ie, leave the
computer completely alone while you're doing it.  PCMCIA =~ ISA, which
isn't terribly fast.
