I had the unfortunate pleasure of having done the same thing just
yesterday on a W95 box. I inserted the card, canceled the driver
install, and tried to install it manually, but no joy. Turns out I had
to zap the card from the registry, under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MANCHINE:Enum:PCMCIA:"card vendor"

Having done that, when I re-inserted the card, and went through the
driver install, it worked fine.
