Re: tlug: tlug.ml.org

>What does everyone think of tlug.ml.org as the domain?

Other people have expressed support for starting there and gradually moving
from that to tlug.or.jp, and I also think that is a good idea. The only
point of concern is that what if there just happens to be some other company
or organization, either now or in the future, whose name could be
abbreviated TLUG and they grab the domain name? Under current JPNIC rules,
that essentially means we could never get it. Ever. Not even if the owner
were willing to donate it to us? And guess why? The current JPNIC rules
(in what I consider to be a case of overkill) do not allow you to transfer a
domain name to anyone else. This is done, according to JPNIC, as a measure
to fight domain name speculation. While I suppose it must be effective, I
also sometimes wonder if it doesn't do more harm than good.

I also read where if you register a domain name, you do have to use it (I
think there is a grace period, but not sure how long), so we couldn't just
register tlug.or.jp and let it sit that way until we got ready to use it.

If we want to go with tlug.ml.org to get up and online quickly with our own
domain, I think that's fine, but we probably shouldn't delay longer than
necessary in registering tlug.or.jp (if that's what we decide on) and then
move toward putting it into use.
