RE: tlug: FAT 16 as NFS filesystem?

Jonathan,

It is good to see that you are really getting into this Linux thing...

For switching files between Windows and Linux machines, I noticed that newer
redhat installations have precompiled Samba into the distribution. I am
using version 5.0, and I was surprised that it worked automatically... truly
plug and play... This is software using the M$ SMB to access Microsoft
Network drives... therefore, your Linux Box becomes a member of your Windows
network. The default workgroup is "WORKGROUP", so if you change your
Windows Network Workgroup to this name, I think you will see your Linux box
in the "network neighborhood". Hope this helps!

Subject:	tlug: FAT 16 as NFS filesystem?

Can a FAT-16 file system on a Windows 95 machine be mounted as an NFS by
Linux?  I'm also planning on migrating the Windows box to NT Workstation;
can Linux mount an NTFS file system as NFS? What about FAT-32?

Or is there a better way to move files back and forth between a Windows
machine and a Linux machine on a TCP/IP network?

For that matter, will Windows 95 or NT Workstation allow another computer
to
access their disks in that way? All comments, tips, and warnings of
potential pitfalls are appreciated.

Thanks!

Jonathan
