Hi,
I got JDK 1.1.1 working and I feel really silly about the lame
mistake I was making.   In my XFConfig file I forgot to indicate
the FontPath.  Ahhhhggggg.  I am so lame.

Here is what I have now:

    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
    FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"


JDK 1.1.1 works on a test applet.  I'm using Todd Rudick's 
font.properties which I got from his Java Dict page (linked to
my linux-nihongo page if you're interested).  I'm downloading JavaDict
now to try out the Japanese capability.  I may get the JDK1.1.1 Japanese
extensions later to try it out.
