How to use a CD-R?

The lab has just bought a new Pentium Pro machine (its a Gateway
G6-200), that came with a CD-R drive.

The kernel identified it as:

Vendor: MATSHITA Model: CD-R CW-7501 Rev: 1.4D
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02

I'm trying to use cdwrite-2.0, but its documentation says only
Philips, Yamaha and HP drives are supported.

By any chance, does anybody know of a new version/another package
that supports the Panasonic/Matsushita drive?

And what is the procedure to write a CD-ROM, anyway?

-tomita.
