tkdic compilation?

It seems that I get lazier as I get older. The key combination
commands for xjdic22 are a bit tedious to remember. It is
fine if I'm reading an electronic document and do the cut
and paste method. However, if I am reading a magazine
or newspaper and want to find the reading of a person's
name from a kanji where I don't know the numerical value
of the radical, it gets a little mendokusai. At least, in
the 30 minutes or so I've played with it, I don't like it.

Several months ago Tomita-san mentioned that he was using
tkdic (can't remember URL now, but it is on my linux-nihongo
doc). I sucked it
down from the Finland site but I have
not been able to compile it. It is based on Tcl7.4 , Tk4.0
(Japanese patched) where the RedHat 4.0 Colgate distribution
I'm using depends on Tcl7.5 and Tk4.1. There are libs for
Tcl7.4 and Tk4.0 so I installed the patches from the JE
0.97z distribution. However, I did not manage to get
tkdic compiled and I can no longer use the RedHat configuration
tools, which I didn't really like anyway.

Well, I'm wondering if tkdic is really good and if it is worth
trying to get it to run. If someone has a binary, I would like
to try it out... hint, hint... Also, does anyone have hints
on how to modify the Tcl7.4 and Tk4.0 libs under the RedHat
4.0 distribution so I can get tkdic to work.

Failing this, any descriptions of people using xjdic22 in a work
or play
environment? Is it better to just keep using the paper kenkyuusha
waeijiten and a canon wordtank? For example, I'm about to go
buy some pastries for breakfast and am going to buy a newspaper or
a magazine.
I was thinking of using xjdic22 to help me read it, but then I'm
supposed to be relaxing on Sunday, so I don't want to waste
four hours learning the interface...
