I'd have to agree with Jim Tittsler that if a Home Area Network is
less than say 12 machines, then coax 10-Base-2 is probably a 
better choice.  There is less cable and there is no need for a hub.
Also, if you live in a standard house then the individual units
will not have wide physical dispertion.  Coax is also faster than
10BaseT.

However, a hidden cost might be the connectivity to other network
devices.  For example, the P50 router only has 10-BaseT and AUI
physical network interfaces.  Thus, if you want to connect a
full 10-Base-2 network to the router, you could need to purchase a
transceiver that converts AUI to 10BaseT.  You can get one for
about 8,000 yen.   10-Base-T cable is also cheaper than 10-Base-2.
So, for example if you ever plan to network your dining room or 
kitchen, then you have to consider the distance from your main
HAN server or router to the kitchen node.   You might also
want to get two small hubs in this case and run 10-Base-2 as the
main backbone in your home.  Dial on demand is is excellent for 
this time of thing.
