  Are you saying that Linux has only one driver, a postscript one, and gs is 
used to print the native PS output on other printers?

If so, that's not really the same meaning.

Linux prints fine with 16 mb ram.  It has support for a wide variety
of printers with gs.  The JE distribution has a help file about
support for Japanese printers.  You can even print stuff like
Japanese web pages from Netscape with U.S. printers.
