Hmmmmm, of course I respect your opinion, but I won't bite and go down
this thread.

I know that what I thought I knew about China has completely changed
from living "here" (since I'm not in the mainland) the last several
years.  Overseas news isn't wrong, but they merely scratch the
surface.

Debating about the situation there with someone who is looking from
the outside is perhaps not going to get us anywhere.  And, I do work
for a publicly funded institute and this mailing list is publicly
indexed.  Sadly, that is something that is on my mind every time I
write in a public forum.  Am I paranoid?  Maybe...but it is much
easier to look at the situation from the outside.  ;-(  I'm of course
safe as long as I remain a small potato...

At one point you seemed to claim that only China could impose a lockdown on an
entire province. Nobody can possibly argue that Italy has also imposed a lockdown
on an entire province and you acknowledged that but then you said that a province
in China is 60 million people and thus beats Italy on numbers, yet there's India which
has imposed a lockdown on the entire population and that population is actually
larger than China's. All those are verifiable facts and none of them are politically charged.

I thus fail to see how an acknowledgement that India also has a population of 1+ billion
could possibly get anybody into trouble with the Chinese government. But never mind.
