Re: [tlug] Japanese writing does not work

I used your hint with Fcitx in an KDE DE.

I install from the Linux Mint repository
-fcitx
-fcitx-mozc
-Kde-config-fcitx

When open the launcher and search for fcitx I get the following:
- Fcitx (Input Methode)
- Fcitx Configuration (Input Method Configuration)
- Input Method (Configure Input Method)
- Run fcitx

When I start
- Fcitx Configuration
- Input Method

or when I open System settings > Regional Setting > Input Method,  I get the Input Method - System Settings Module
and the error message "Cannot connect to Fcitx by DBus, is Fcitx running?"

When I start
- Fcitx
- Run fcitx
nothting happens.

Logout and in again does show any change.

I then un-installed all Fcitx modules using  the SW Manager and logged out and in again and also rebooted my machine

In both cased I Still I get the same error message when I open System settings > Regional Setting > Input Method. This appears to be particularly strange as no Fcitx module is installed any more.

When I un-install
-KDE-config
and start on

- Fcitx (Input Methode)
- Fcitx Configuration (Input Method Configuration)
- Input Method (Configure Input Method)
- Run fcitx
I get error message that says that the normal interface does not show up and the configuration file opens in a default text system (kate).

What could be the cause?

This is what currently works for me:

Distro: Fedora 29, KDE spin

Install software:
  sudo dnf install fcitx fcitx-kkc fcitx-skk kcm-fcitx
Fix start link (maybe don't have to do this anymore):
  mkdir -p ~/.config/autostart ; cp /usr/share/applications/fcitx.desktop ~/.config/autostart/
fcitx.desktop
Add the following to ~/.bashrc or similar:
  export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
  export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
  export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
Run the fcitx setup from within KDE.  Usually I have to log out and back in once or twice until it works.  I've not got around to looking into why.

I never did get ibus to work.

Japanese keyboard. All keys are correct. Just no conversion to hiragana.

Neither IBUS-Anthy nor IBUS-mozc will change to Japanese writing.

In LM 17.3 KDE 64 bit IBUS-anthy is working perfect.

In LM19.1 Cinnamon 64bit IBUS-mozc is working.

Does someone has experience with this way of Japanese writing? If so, I am prepared to exchange settings and all what is needed.
