This will /should(?) only work when ibus-daemon is launched with the --xim parameter. Depending on these many desktop environments, it may or may not be launched like this.

The parent could provide or compare for his working and non-working sessions:

 * environment (env), perhaps from a terminal (check the variables Furkan mentioned)
 * ibus-daemon launch arguments (ps axuf or so)
 * dbus-session setup (can also be checked from environment variables above: DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS must be set)
