Cheers! When you say "not power related", didn't mean PSU related 
(what's the brand of the "80 grade" thing you mention?)

That's classic PSU. Just make sure you disconnect everything going out 
of the PSU to mobo, graphics and eventually just connect the very bare 
minimum to boot up.

But, that's for sure; take this machine "off-duty" and try to 
troubleshoot with the downloadable "Ultimate Boot CD" or something. 
Don't insist crashing the file system.
