I have just checked, and fcitx with 16.04 works well. Unless you have a

Hi Scott,

One more data point to add if you like - I am running 16.04 GNOME (which is very nice). Installing fcitx-mozc worked straight off and I could change the input mode with Ctrl-Space, but there was no indicator/menu on the status bar indicating whether I'm in English mode or Japanese mode.

To get the indicator back, I installed the GNOME extension "Input Method Panel" ( https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/261/kimpanel/ )
This did the trick and now the indicator & menu displays perfectly.

GNOME has a control panel "Region & Language" with its' own indicator, but I couldn't figure out how to link this to fcitx. As it stands, it seems more like a controller for 'setxkbmap'.

Regards,
Michael
