I vaguely remember hearing that Ubuntu had made libreoffice the
default office suite a while ago.  I forgot when, but this seems to
indicate since April 2011:

While it is true Ubuntu users are free to set up a PPA to install
openoffice, that's a few extra steps that lazy people (like me) won't
do.  Of course, your question is for entering Japanese, which I don't
do.  Just saying that Canonical chose for many Ubuntu users already...
