I don't have much to add to the recent suggestions; the best I can do
is to go back to your original message and confirm that I use Ubuntu
13.10 and Firefox 27 on a few computers (about 4?) and all are fine
with gmail.  Fine with reading and writing e-mails, uploading
attachments, and even uploading files go Google Drive.  As for your
comment to Ariel about it being related to Japanese IME / fonts, I
also have Japanese installed and also have no problems.

As others have suggested, the problem could be with something specific
to your user profile or with plugins which you've installed.  If you
aren't willing to touch that, then create a new user account and use
its Firefox to see if it is a profile problem or a system problem.

I think Ariel has a point.  If you aren't willing to consider removing
Firefox information, as others here have suggested, then you'll
probably have better luck posing your question to a Firefox forum or
maybe AskUbuntu -- users there might be able to give you suggestions
which won't disturb your account so much...

I did consider so. As well as I did in October (the last time I did think about it, and did
remove my ~.mozilla/firefox).
Then Firefox works, of course. But with no rikaichan, nor weather, nor any bookmark.
As anybody knows that FF works, this is quite useless...

Well, I will reload bookmarks, I need them. I could of course try to install one by one
all plugins, restarting FF once a week, to confirm, without being sure of the issue.

I said it could be a bug in FF or gmail. If a bug in a plugin prevents FF to work, I will
still consider it is a FF issue.

Bruno.

PS. A funny fact is that when i open a new tab in (fresh) Firefox, some links that I did not visit for
long time ago (months) appear. There is therefore some information beside my ~/.mozilla/firefox directory.
