Which docking station (link to specs)?
It is true that some hardware is crippled, but also some converters
are simply omitting the audio.

The whole enchilada of video/audio links (DVI/HDMI/DP) and all their
versions and revisions is one of the biggest standard messes around.

BTW, consider the analog way if you are feeding the audio into a TV
(=stereo): just add an extra cable from the sound card to the video in
of the TV (some have special input next to the HDMI for that purpose).
