Re: [tlug] But too much logs kills the logs: How to Grok Logs

Hi Bruno,

With *your* proposal? or the other ones (which seems fine too).

Uhhhhhhhh, yesterday you said this about rsnapshot:

So, in the same *paragraph*, you said that you looked through rsnapshot's documentation and then asked how long it will take to make it handle your situation -- I think most people would assume you are talking about rsnapshot, right?

It seems you're equally interested in digressions since you're purposely going backwards in the discussion! :-)

How to make my 2-3 years backups compatible? I would need
to learn the inside (which was an interesting recent discussion
too !)
Or all of them? No thanks. I won't try to transfer my full
backups
in 10 new systems to find the best of them. This will avoid
flames,
just for a log of a private home directory :-)

Promise, I will have a look, as I am curious. But not in the
next few
weeks (or even months, depending on what time I have to
spend on it).
Would you be me, would you prefer a 5 min "grep", or a deep
search
on many solution? I am lazy :-)

I'm certainly not going to hand-hold you through the decision-making process. If you must know, I previously used an rsnapshot-like system, then unison, then rsnapshot. Now I use the latter two.

Whether or not you feel the need to give up on "grep" and give a new method to try is of course your decision.

But, I should remind you that you posted the original question. So you must have been looking for alternatives to your current situation...

This brings me to an unrelated question: Are TLUG meetings
presentations
private, as I can't find them on the site?

So, you've never been to a TLUG meeting before, obviously? :-) No, they are not private.

Perhaps you should re-read what Edward said to you on Friday:
