I've had this same discussion with friends in other groups.  I first encountered threaded email on this group and had real problems until someone pointed out threading email readers. I had no idea such things existed.

Most of my friends don't even know that a threaded email mode exists or how to use it.  What they are doing is emulating threaded mail with top-posting.  Can you imagine what this list or any heavy list would look like if all the email was top-posted and not edited down? 

For dealing with the conversations we have on this list, I think anything other than threaded email would be really difficult to follow with a non-threaded (i.e. top-posted) email style.
