Mario,

First, thank you for your help. I do things by the seat of my pants.
Right now nothing works. Ubuntu 12.04 was working well and was installed
on a pen drive. I had previously taken my old Windows XP off the
computer. I now wanted to run Ubuntu straight off my HDD. I did
something and now I have nothing but a useless pendrive. I didn't know
how to use the GRUB so I believe I don't even have it on my pendrive.

I think my mind is stuck on learning how to properly program or load the
files onto the pendrive so as to make it bootable then to totally load
it on to the computer.

Thank you for your time,

Nick

    Nick,

What error is it throwing when you try to boot?

You can still boot off the pen drive, yes? If so, boot up, mount
your drive partition(s) and make sure GRUB is installed correctly.

recently deleted windows off my AA1 and installed Ubuntu which I had
running off a pen drive. I pushed luck & tried to get Ubuntu to boot
off the HDD. Now I can do nothing on the net book. I can't run
anything on it. I'm sort of new to Linux, I haven't had much
experience but I'm not new to the computer world.

Nick,

What downloading and installation options are available to you?

I'd look at reinstalling the OS first and making a more careful check for the most appropriate image.

"Netbook" = "no CD/DVD"? You have a USB 2.0 port?

There are a number of products appropriate to different devices and installation options offered on the Ubuntu site. You can choose a more appropriate product there. There are several notebook / netbook specific options but I forget whether they are added after the first boot or at initial install -- my ThinkPad had no trouble getting what it needed, so I'm a little slow on this.

Do you currently have a way to download either a CD iso or a USB drive installer image? And do you have the necessary hardware to reinstall it? If not, do you have a way to retrieve an image file attached to a mail from this site and to install it to a USB drive?

(Sorry, "pen drive" is a term I only hear from contacts who are native speakers of Spanish and Italian and live in Southern European countries. It is a mystery to me.)
