Welcome to the Soviet Corporate-Socialist Republic of Japan!

There's a regulation in Japan that says that companies must stock
parts for seven years after ending production.  There's no price cap
on said parts.  So ....

Note that if you have to go to a repair shop to get the work done, the
manufacturers tend to post more reasonable prices and often kickback
to the repair shops; the relationship there is symbiotic.  Then the
prices are painfully, but not quite prohibitively, high.
