Also remembering the interesting ipv6-facts for japan i wonder on the
general state on digital-TV in .jp and using this with Linux?

Trying to summuarize this for Europe, especially Germany:
DVB-S, satellite signal received with satellite-dish
  -really common in europe
-there are pci-cards nicely supported in linux
-many hundreds of stations tv/radio receivable, still many stations analog,
many already digital, of these many encoded
-new growing encoding standard is CI+ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CI%2B)
which uses smartcards, uses trused line along all stations, nothing
known to use this with linux yet.
-already HDTV stations here, 1920x1080 or 1280x720 pixel digital signal

DVB-T, terrestrial TV signal received with yagis or pigtails
-pci/usb-cards supported in linux, no HDTV here due to low datarates
-not everywhere available, where available just 10 or 20 stations

DVB-C, TV-signal via dedicated cable
-pci/usb-cards supported in linux, some HDTV stations here
-around hundred stations receivable, still many stations analog,
many already digital, of these many encoded
-new growing encoding standard is CI+, not usable from pure linux
   yes
-older encryption can be decrypted in software on linux, newer
encryption (Nagra3) not usable on linux.

So atleast for Germany the offerings are made in ways so linux cannot
be used to receive everything but blackboxen have to be used.
