[tlug] HDMI / Xubuntu issue

Morning all,

I'm running Xubuntu 9.04 on my box here, and recently got a new
monitor after 7 years, and it supports DVI, VGA and HDMI inputs. I
wanted to use HDMI for the Linux box as I have a cheap little ATI 4350
card and am using the ATI binary drivers (down at the back!). Anyway,
using HDMI the image appears OK and claims to be 1920*1080 (the
natural size of the screen hardware), but is centred with what looks
to be around 80 pixels of black border. The only way I can get it to
fill the screen is to tell it in the driver to go 1600*1200, which is
obviously not right. I've poked around the ATI forums and the Xubuntu
ones, but nothing leaps out. Any ideas on this? I haven't used HDMI
before but I've heard of lots of random issues from friends with other
PC boxes, consoles etc. but nothing that seemed to apply. Right now
then I've got the box using the VGA input.

Loving the screen real estate though - huge improvement from 1280*1024/17"!

Thanks in advance

Graham
