Yes and no.  The people we're talking about in this thread don't
publish in JSS or contribute to open source until *after* they've made
their billion, not to mention expiration of the relevant patents.

S+ (and the other proprietary packages like Matlab and Mathematica)
still have way nicer front ends and especially graphics, which is
really important if you need to sell something to Bill Gates rather
than Ariel Pakes.
