Re: [tlug] The Android Has Landed

Shawn,

Can you HT-03a users please try to do your updates via wi-fi?
The android dev list insists that (well for their carriers) you get a
notification of an update and get get a quicker download by using
wi-fi.
It would depend on the WiFi, obviously. At home, I have WiFi at around 56Mb (... maybe... I'm not exactly sure). Especially considering the size of my apartment, my transmitter and my phone are never far apart, resulting in a super strong signal. How often am I likely to be that close to a cellular transmitter/receiver up on some pole out in the street?

However, at my local coffee shop (at one of them, anyway), there is a nearby WiFi signal I can log onto, but it is weak and slow. Sometimes I give up on it and just connect via 3G.

So... you *can* get better response from WiFi, but I think it's a little simplistic to describe one as being entirely better or worse than the other.

If that is really true, I am going to go back to the DoCoMo shop to
politely let them know I don't like misinformation and that my whole
family (well, only 3 people) didn't join DoCoMo because their
information was wrong.

I find this a little confusing. You would have joined DoCoMo and got Android phones for your whole family if it had been the case that WiFi was faster?

Even if, under the best conditions, one was faster, it's not as if one is 10 times faster. It might be 10% faster. And then that would get lost in the reality of the situation that the quality of both 3G and WiFi vary wildly depending on where you're standing.
