OK. I don't know why your PC doesn't work actually.
Only I can say exactly a few USB devices, hubs, and hosts have hardware
bugs that derive serious troubles to connect other USB devices on the
operating system (including Linux) layer or upper.

But if you've already installed Android SDK 1.5 or later to your PC,
there is a way to confirm easily that your PC connects to Android phone
with adb tool in SDK. Just type "adb devices".
If it connect successfully, adb shows your phone like HTxxxxxxxx
to console.

If no phone is shown, it would be suspicious slightly that your PC has
some of hardware troubles.
