if there is no driver to install then it's very likely a usb mass
storage device.

Not that specific one but in my experience (cameras and psp) sony
gadgets present themselves as mass storage devices. They may have some
restriction related to the directory layout but nothing more than that.
Sorry I can't confirm what you ask for though. :P

You might still try to go into the shop with a laptop and ask them to
plug the walkman in to see what happens. Even using a wintendo computer
you should be able to see[1] if the usb mass storage driver is the one
owning the device.

[1]: somewhere within the device manager thing I guess, but don't ask me
more than that, I was just suggesting in case the clerk doesn't trust
your own laptop but you may still be able to convince him to plug it
into some winbox they have available.
