What do you mean by the statement "recently both have dropped all
pretense of being interested in caching"?

Are you aware that Amazon has no web search engine? We once had a web
crawler that powered A9.com, but that has long since been replaced,
first by Google search, then by Microsoft Live search.

What you say sounds fairly accurate insofar as I understand how
Google's search engine works, but it has nothing to do with Amazon's,
which is primarily used for product search and a few applications
related to that.

Did you mean Yahoo! up there where you typed Amazon? If so, things
would make more sense. :)
