 SCIM is needed? I think uim and uim-anthy is enough for input Japanese.
 And as ttf-vlgothic, ttf-kochi-* and ttf-sazanami-* maintainer :), 
 now ttf-vlgothic is default font in Japanese environment.
  
 But I don't use KDE so don't know about something special in KDE ;)
